KAMPALA-UGANDA/NEWSDAY: Police on Wednesday morning recovered Shs. 600m from a house of a government official.

The money recovered is part of Shs.3bn taken as commission from a deal printing deal between the Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation (UPPC) and the Electro Commission.

“Detectives have recovered Shs. 600Million from some suspects of UPPC. The money was destined for another accomplice in crime. It is part of the 3billion loot that had passed through an account of a fictitious Commission agent,” Charles Twiine the spokesperson of the Criminal Investigations Department said on Wednesday.

It is alleged that professor Tom Wasswa, the head of UPPC who was arrested recently and granted a police bond is due to be arrested again. He is one of the alleged masterminds of the Shs. 3 billion theft.

Sources within police said that the money recovered on Wednesday was meant for the Electro Commission’s Legal Head, Angeyo Jennifer who is also facing arrest.

The electoral commission paid Shs 9bn to UPPC to gazette for the 2021-2026 electoral roadmap and publish names of the successfully elected political leaders from the 2021-2026 general elections.
