KAMPALA-UGANDA/UGANDA: Two days after sources in the Ministry of Education said that schools would reopen on September 9 and then government quickly denying the same, parliament has directed the  line Minister to bring a comprehensive report before the house on how the government plans to reopen schools.

This is after the Kalungu West MP, Joseph Ssewungu who was raising a matter of national importance said that for two years, learners in Kindergarten, Primary 1 to P3 and students from Senior One, Two and Five have never attended classes. Schools were closed in 2020 after covid19 struck.

Ssewungu says that some schools are dilapidated due to lack of activity while some learners especially girls have been married off.

The Busia Municipality MP Geoffrey Macho noted that 80 percent of the children at the border districts are studying from neighbouring countries. He wants the government to inform parliament on the plans they have.
