KAMPALA-UGANDA/NEWSDAY: A Germany International Development Agency, GIZ is rooting for Responsible Governance Investment in Land use in Uganda.
And as a first step, it has held a Multi sectral Dialogue in partnership with the Ministry of Lands Housing and Urban Development during a two day dialogue that ended on Friday at Hotel Protea in Kampala, Uganda.
The dialogue brought together government officials, investors, local communities, civil society organisations (CSOs), Media and development partners.
“(The intention) is to have a broad understanding of the status quo of the implementation of responsible investments in Land, Agriculture and forestry,” GIZ said in a statement ahead of the dialogue.
Views and experiences learnt about good practices and tools implemented so far in Uganda and other countries where the GIZ is funding similar Projects like Lao PDR were shared by the various stakeholders who facilitated during the dialogue.
Other follow ups will take place in 2022 and 2023.
The dialogue theme is “Promoting Responsible Governance of Investment in Land (RGIL)” as part of the “Enhanced Land Tenure Security (ELTeS)” project in Lao PDR.

RGIL and ELTeS are implemented within the Global Program on Responsible Land Policy as part of the German Special Initiative “One World – No Hunger” of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. RGIL is co-funded by the European Union.
Both are part of the Special Initiative “One World, No Hunger” of the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). RGIL is a four years Project co-funded by the European Union and the German Government and is being implemented in areas of Kasanda, Mubende, Soroti, Katakwi, Dokolo and Amolotar.

Action points
At the Kampala meeting, participants drew action points that include financing budgets related to land in local governments, involving agricultural cooperatives, strengthening community sensitisation, constituting and institutionalising investment committees among others.
Dialogue platforms for investors and land owners should be formed as well as investors establishing synergies with existing cooperatives.
