MUKONO-UGANDA/NEWSDAY: High court in Mukono seized Dr. Matthew Kirabo’s sureties, a prime suspect in the killing of former Makerere University student, Desire Mirembe in 2015 until they paid a Shs.150m bond.
Kirabo’s mother Ms. Emelda Wabulendo, his uncle Benard Mbayo were ordered to pay shs. 150m shared equally as bond fees. Fortunately for them, they raised the money and were let free.
Another of Kirabo sureties Nelson, died according to the lawyer.
Kirabo went missing at the resumption of hearing of his case last month. A Jinja based senior Laboratory technologist Razak Waswa was remanded last week for forging Covid-19 results for Dr.Kirabo Mathew.
Dr. Kirabo Mathew skipped court on November 3 on claims he was hospitalized in Jinja suffering from covid19.
But investigations found out Dr. Kirabo had not contracted covid19 and that his lawyers only used forged covid19 results to deceive court. Razak was arrested last week and arraigned before a magistrate’s court on Friday and remanded.
In today’s hearing High Justice Henry Isabirye Kaweesa enforced his last week directive for the sureties to pay the bond.
“Now that again you have failed to produce the suspect, each of you has to pay surety bond of Shs. 50million or hold you until you will produce him in court,” Justice Kaweesa said.
Rights activist and Sisimuka Uganda founder Frank Gashumba said after the Wednesday court that “it seems Kirabo’s family opted to pay for justice for their murderous son to dodge justice. But the hunt continues”.
