KAMPALA-UGANDA/NEWSDAY: Controversial Pastor of Life Church ministries at Makerere Jackson Ssenyonga has arrested his former workers who defected to his rival Brother Ronnie Makabai’s ETM and Holy City Church.
Ssenyonga and Makabai have had a long standing competitiveness with counter accusations of staging followers who during church services offer forged testimonies to prove each of them wields spiritual powers.
Two former workers at Ssenyonga’s church Ms Kamiat Nassali who is commonly referred to as Maama Bridhget and Peter Ojulong were arrested this week and detained at a police post located in the yard of Ssenyonga’s church.
They are accused of alleged threatening violence against the life of Ssenyonga and his legal aide Israel Wasswa. A general enquiry file has been opened against them on file GEF 1056/2021 at the police criminal investigations department (CID) headquarters at Kibuli.
The suspects were however released on bond. In a press conference on Wednesday Nassali said that her fall out with Ssengonga is a result of failure to fulfil their assignment in which they had to spy on other pastors and report back to Ssenyonga who would then during his sermons criticize the rivals.
“I have worked with Ssenyomga for four years and I was in charge of giving false testimonies at a pay. I have been in charge of soliciting other people from other churches who come to Life Ministries and malign their former pastors,” Nassali claimed.
Ojulong said that his job at Ssenyonga’s church was to undertake surveillance on Ssenyonga’s rival.
“Apart from the fact he doesn’t want to pay, it was time up for me. I got tired of the job and when he learnt the fact I was tired, he instituted fake charges against me and my colleague,” Ojulong said.
After defecting from Ssenyonga, Nassali and Ojulong joined Pastor Makabai’s church. It is not however clear how they came back to Makerere to be detained near Pastor Ssenyonga’s church where they were detained.
“Ssenyonga now feel envious that we left his church and joined his rival. He believes we will divulge his filth moves to Brother Ronnie. Of course deep inside him he knows we have never threatened him,” Ojulong said.
Ssenyonga has not yet responded to the latest claims against him.
CID’s spokesperson Charles Twiine confirmed they have a case against Nassali and Ojulong.
Mid this year Ssenyonga arrested another group of pastors who he alleged were also threatening violence against him.
