KAMPALA-UGANDA/NEWSDAY: President Museveni has advised the former proprieter of Ssimbamanyo building to seek other legal remedies other than a presidential intervention.
Museveni in a October 21 letter to Mr Peter Kamya, titled “Claim of illegal sale of Ssimbamanyo and Afrique” he noted that after consulting with the attorney general and the governor of Bank of Uganda, it was discovered Kamya’s properties were sold after due legal processes.
Kamya reached out to President Museveni seeking help after what he called an illegal disposal of his properties. Museveni then wrote to relevant authorities seeking for advice.
“I have been advised the sale was legal after you failed to pay 30 percent of the loan amount. They advised you are at liberty to seek other legal remedies,” Museveni said.
The development comes after court further slapped Me Kamya with a Shs. 1.5bn in court costs against Me Kamya. The figures accrued after  various court cases against Equity Bank and Sudhir Ruperellia who bought Ssimbamanyo and has since renamed it as Gender and Labour House.
Kamya lost his Simbamanyo House on George Street and Afrique Suits after hardships to pay make payments for the two loans he acquired from Equity Bank Kenya and Equity Bank Uganda.  The properties are registered as LRV 2200 Plot 2, Lumumba Avenue known as Simbamanyo House and properties comprised Block 243 Plot 957, 958, 1799 and 1800 and Block 237 Plot 95 located in Mutungo known as Afrique Suits. But in 2016, Simbamanyo defaulted on these loan facilities and to buy time, he filed High Court Civil Suit Number 544 of 2016.
