Anti Corruption fight is a shared responsibility, says Col Nakalema

The Col, whose unit is barely three years old but with glaring achievements including prosecution of government bigwigs and recovery of billions of shillings, said wherever and whenever Corruption is detected, it must be reported.

KAMPALA-UGANDA/NEWSDAY: The head of the State House Anti Corruption Unit (SH-ACU) Col Edith Nakalema has said Uganda will only achieve it’s development goals with a corrupt free nation but called for a multi stakeholder engagement.

Col Nakalema cited Article 17(1) i, which empowers  every Citizen of Uganda to combat corruption and misuse or wastage of public property.
Col Nakalema was Saturday speaking at a Baraza organised by Beat FM at Capital gardens in Kampala during an event where heads of anti Corruption agencies shared their views on how to stump out theft of public funds under the theme “My Fight, Your Fight, Corruption must fall”.
“Not to be corrupt is the best choice. I urge you to be at the frontline in this fight. Be the warriors. This (anti Corruption) fight starts with you and me,” Col Nakalema said.

The Col, whose unit is barely three years old but with glaring achievements including prosecution of government bigwigs and recovery of billions of shillings, said wherever and whenever Corruption is detected, it must be reported.

“A free corrupt nation will  and  assist us achieve a country we envisage. Increased road accidents, increased Death in hospitals and terrorism in the country are partly due to Corruption. Choosing to be incorruptible is the best choice to make,” Nakalema said.

 “It is our responsibility to see to it that we do not indulge in any type of corruptive behavior. The President always stress that to build a prosperous Uganda is giving up corrupt practices. Do not endanger your lives by being corrupt,” Col Nakalema said.
