KAYUNGA-UGANDA/NEWSDAY: As the situation deteriorates, at least 48 poling agents of Kayunga district LCV candidate Harriet have been arrested along an MP, mayor and a Daily Monitor journalist.

Reporters in Kayunga say that security agents waylaid the polling officials of Nakwedde and confiscated their appointment letters and in a flash of seconds a team of police arrived and arrested the same group claiming they had entered Kayunga illegally without purpose.

And separately, a video showed Nakwedde standing alone pleading with police officers to let her distribute letters for polling agents.

“You are not allowed to move at this time,” one police officer retorted.

Meanwhile the Lubaga South MP Aloysius Mukasa, Kra municipality Mayor Mutebi, Daily Monitor’s photographer Micheal Kakumirizi and others were also rounded up on Wednesday night and taken into custody.

“Michael and others have been driven in a drone at around 5 am and taken away in a Drone number plate is UBG 454B. They are currently detained at Naggalama police station,” one journalist said.

Kakumirizi’s phones and camera were confiscated and have been left behind at Kayunga police station while he was taken to Naggalama.

Although it is polling day for Local Government Councils by-elections in various electoral areas countrywide, it has been very chaotic in Kayunga where a major battle lies between NRM’s candidate and Harriet Nakwedde.

Today’s by-elections will fill 201 vacant Chairperson and Councilor positions in various Local Government Councils countrywide. The vacant positions include the District Chairperson, Kayunga, and 19 LC III Chairpersons in various affected electoral areas.

Voting will take place at all polling stations in the affected electoral areas starting at 7am and ending at 4pm.

Thereafter, the counting of votes and declaration of results will take place.
