MBALE-UGANDA/NEWSDAY: A Uganda People’s Defence Forces-UPDF truck has knocked dead a mother and her 9 months old baby in Mbale city.

The accident occurred at Sleeping baby junction in Mbale city on Thursday morning when a UPDF truck registration number BO3BF099 attached to 3rd Division rolled over the mother and her baby after falling off a motorcycle.

The mother has been identified as 42-year-old Gladys Nambuya and her 9-month-old baby only identified as Maria, both residents of Nauyo in Mbale city.

Preliminary police investigations show that the mother and her baby were riding on a motorcycle and fell off.

Rogers Taitika, the Elgon Region Police Spokesperson says that they have opened inquiries vide file number Tar 403/2021 to establish the cause of the accident.

He says that the deceased bodies are lying at Mbale city mortuary pending post-mortem.

Captain Edrin Mawanda, the 3rd Division Spokesperson says that the truck driver is being held at Bugema army barracks to aid investigations.

He says that the UPDF leadership is working out modalities with the family members to ensure a decent burial for the deceased.
