KAMPALA-UGANDA/NEWSDAY: Four school children have been killed in Kampala after a fire gutted their dormitory in the wee hours of Saturday.
Police said the fire at New Crest Junior, Kibedi Day and boarding Primary School in Kawempe Division Kampala City started at around 3am on 15/01/2022 from one of the female pupils’ dormitories.
” Four female pupils have been confirmed dead while three are seriously injured,” Kampala deputy police spokesperson Luke Oweyesigire said.
School owners have been arrested and a casefile of causing death has been opened at Kawempe police station.
“Our forensic team of experts from the Directorate of Fire and from the Forensics are documenting the scene”, police said.
Police accused the owners of New Crest Junior for failure to notify police instead opting to manage the fire locally.
“This is an act of gross negligence that caused the death and injuries of the pupils,” Oweyesigire said.
