Geneva: Former ethics minister and recently a member of the Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC) has died, the commission has announced.

Fr. Simon Lokodo died Saturday morning in Geneva, Switzerland.

A tweet by UHRC said Saturday midday Lokodo had died from Geneva and details would be provided.

He  was Minister of State for Ethics and Integrity between 2011 and June 2021. He was in August appointed as a commissioner for the Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC).

He also before becoming minister served as Dodoth County MP (Kaabong District).

Between 2009 to 2011, he served as state minister for trade.

His engagements in politics led to his ex-communication from the Catholic Church by Pope Benedict XVI.

During his ministry in ethics, he fiercely challenged homosexuality, raising in 2012, with police a gay activist workshop.
