State attorney arrested in a Shs. 1m defilement case bribery.

MASINDI-UGANDA/NEWSDAY:  Masindi district Resident State attorney, Charles Bwiiso has been arrested for soliciting a bribe of Shs.3m from persons in a case of defilement.

The State House Anti corruption arrested Bwiso on Thursday after he pestered the family of an accused defiler with a Shs. 3 million bribe.

The bait money

Early this month a case of defilement was reported at  Masindi Police Station on file CRB 149/2022 in which Mr. Alinaitwe Joseph was accused of defiling a minor.

A spokesperson of SH-ACU said in a statement that Arinaitwe had been held for more than ten days without being been arraigned before court.

“In the meantime, the families of the suspect and the victim agreed to a settlement and reconciliation out of court and an agreement was written plus a request to the RSA to withdraw the case,” SH-ACU said.

“Upon receipt of that request, the RSA demanded for Shs. 3m from the family of the suspect in order to close the file. The family pleaded with him and asked to raise Uganda Shs.1.5m……. detectives laid a bait  of Shs.1m which was delivered to  the office of the RSA and  duly received. This is when he was arrested,” SH-ACU said in a statement.

Please find here with atached a letter from the family members of the accused claiming that they have sorted out their matter out of court. This is therefore to direct you resubmit the file for further guidance.

Today, March 10, Mr. Bwiiso had written to the Masindi District head of CID directing him to resubmit the defilement file for a re-perusal.

“Please find here with attached a letter from the family members of the accused claiming that they have sorted out their matter out of court. This is therefore to direct you resubmit the file for further guidance,” Bwiiso wrote.

He is now under custody awaiting charges related to bribery and corruption.
