KAMPALA-UGANDA/NEWSDAY; Kampala archbishop Paul Ssemogerere has said the poison scare is in Uganda real and that debate about it should not be deterred if a solution were to be found.
The archbishop said during an Easter Sunday sermon at Lubaga Cathedral tis a matter worth debate because of it seeming validity.
He asked authorities not to infringe on those who are discussing the subject threatening action those who debate the scenario.
“Barring the debate about (poison) is a thing of the past. Unbecoming of these peaceful times. If people are discussing poison, let them be, but this tendency of shutting people down, yet officials move with their microphones…”he said.
“As an Archbishop, I receive a lot of protection. The matter of fact there if tension (over poison). And I believe all of you are witnesses. Let us talk about it so that those responsible deter it before it arrives,’ Ssemogerere said.
He warned that continued deterrence to discuss will escalate defiance and fear.
“Let’s be calm and people freely talk about the subject and if poison if people’s fear is unrealistic, the debate will die naturally. I hope I am loud and clear,” Ssemogerere said.
His comments come the death of former Speaker Jacob Oulanya whose father insisted the son before health deteriorated, had told him he was poisoned. This talk is rife within the public but police has already ordered the summoning of Mr. Nathan Okori, NUP Principal, ex minister Godfrey Kiwanda and a number of MPs especially those hailing from the North.
During the national service of Oulanya at Kololo, President Yoweri Museveni: “I would like to warn people who are in the habit of taking advantage of problems to make cheap politics and actually we shall go for them because I have heard some people saying; ‘that oh, Oulanyah was killed.’ The police are going to come and say; ok you tell us…”
