State House anti-corruption Unit arrests Kikuube district labour officer.

By last year, at least 299 persons had been prosecuted by the State House Anti Corruption Unit (SH- ACU) over its two years of existence and Shs.26bn recovered, a compliment in the anti corruption war.

KIKUUBE-UGANDA/NEWSDAY: The State House Anti-Corruption Unit in liaison with Uganda police have arrested Mpuga Arthur, the  Labour Officer of Kikuube District, who doubles as the Chairperson of Bunyoro Tulihamu Cooperative Society, for mismanagement of the Cooperative assets. It is alleged that Mpuga, in connivance with Munguryek Everce, the District Secretary for works &Muganzi Sammuel, the District Principal Assistant Secretary, both members of Bunyoro Tulihamu Cooperative Society abused their power by hiring out a govt tractor assigned to the Society for their personal gains. By last year, at least 299 persons had been prosecuted by the State House Anti Corruption Unit (SH- ACU) over its two years of existence and Shs.26bn recovered, a compliment in the anti corruption war. The  unit was launched on December 10, 2018 by President Museveni to compliment the fight against corruption. Out of the the 299 cases prosecuted, 179 persons are top government officials yet the 120 are private individuals. A total of 39 individuals have since been successfully prosecuted and sentenced. Government accounting officers, chief executive officers, Town clerks, Chief administrative Officers, secretaries of commissions and Members of Parliament have been prosecuted.

Through whatsapp messages and toll free call calls via 0800202500, emails and walk-ins, ACU registers at least 233 cases per day. Cumulatively, a total of 80.000 cases have been reported since the inception of ACU of which 8.000 have been resolved- with a solution given.
