KAMPALA-UGANDA/NEWSDAY; The Uganda Revenue Authority says companies are likely hoarding fuel to create scarcity and hence shoot up fuel costs.
The authority has called for investigations into the suspicion to save Ugandans of the high cost of fuel on the Ugandan market.
URA spokesperson Ibrahim Bbosa, said on Monday that the current taxes on fuel cannot be blamed for the increasing pump prices.
On Monday morning, Shell and Total were selling both petrol and diesel at a retail pump price of between Shs 6,000 and 6,500 per liter respectively.
Daily Monitor reported over the weekend that in Kisumu Kisumu and Nakuru where Uganda gets fuel, prices are relatively low, between Ksh 114 and Ksh130 or Ugx.3,700 and Ugx 4,200 respectively yet in Uganda the prices are nearly double that figure.
In Kenya, the government resolved the problem by paying fuel subsidies in a program that has softened the blow of increasing prices while further straining public finances
