KAMPALA-UGANDA/NEWSDAY: Teddy Nalubowa also known as Tracy Manule Bobiholic, the missing opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) supporter, has finally resurfaced and been charged, two weeks after she went missing.
Although both police and the army earlier denied holding Nalubowa, she was today literally smuggled into Buganda Road Magistrate’s court by the state, and without any legal representation, charged with offensive communication.
Prosecution claims she allegedly disturbed the peace of President Museveni when on August 23, she posted on Facebook and TikTok that “Tumwine finally you have died but you died long time and your boss President Museveni will also die, you will die one by one and we shall celebrate.”
Tumwine passed away last month of lung cancer according to Museveni. Nalubowa went missing on August 28, with several witnesses saying she was kidnapped by armed men driving in the infamous drone vehicle and believed to be from the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) around Masitoowa area in Nansana in Wakiso district.
After denying the charges, the prosecution led by Ivan Kyazze informed court that inquiries in this matter are almost complete, and Nalubowa was subsequently remanded until September 26, 2022.
Nalubowa is the latest person to be charged before Buganda Road court on charges related to disturbing the peace of President Museveni.
In 2018, former Makerere University Researcher Dr Stella Nyanzi was charged with offensive communication after posting a boorish poem attacking Esteeri Kokundeka, the late mother of Museveni, and was convicted and sentenced. The High court however later acquitted Nyanzi of all charges but after she had already done time under sentence.
The same court in 2022 charged novelist Kakwenza Rukirabashaija on similar charges after he posted on his Twitter handle several posts among them one alleging that Museveni’s son Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the commander of the Land Forces was obese. Kakwenza’s case is yet to take off after he jumped bail. Both Nyanzi and Kakwenza have since fled the country to Germany.
