KAMPALA-UGANDA/NEWSDAY: The Church of Uganda has disowned and labelled as a fake the so-called Chaplain of the Kampala Capital City Authority, Rev. Erich Kasirye.
Rev. Canon William Ongeng, the Provincial Secretary of Church of Uganda, in a statement released on Tuesday evening accused Rev Kasirye of “a long history of deception and lack of integrity.”
“The Church of Uganda distances herself from anything he says or writes, and urges the public to not believe the lies he prints.,” Ongeng said.
Kasirye, according to Ongeng was deflocked over his active voice in support of the Homosexuals and he is believed to be in cohorts with the defrocked second Bishop of West Buganda Diocese, Christopher Ssenyonjo-fired in 2008.
Rev. Kasirye worked with Ssenyonjo in his LGBTQ support organization because of the funding he got and, presumably, because he believed in the LGBTQ cause.
“He was never appointed a Canon by any Bishop or Diocese in the Church of Uganda. He is a self-appointed Canon, and a self-appointed Chaplain to KCCA,” Canon Ongeng said.
“We would like to warn the public that a man by the name of Kasirye is masquerading as the Anglican Chaplain of KCCA and uses that self-appointed title to publish false stories about the Church of Uganda,” a statement from the Rev. Canon William Ongeng, the Provincial Secretary of Church of Uganda said on Tuesday evening
“I would like to make it very clear that the Church of Uganda has never appointed a Chaplain to KCCA. Kampala Diocese has not appointed a Chaplain to KCCA. Namirembe Diocese has not appointed a Chaplain to KCCA,” the stamen said.
Although Kasirye has over time claimed he was KCCA Chaplain, officials at the Authority disowned him.
“We don’t know any Chaplain on the staff of KCCA, and definitely don’t know Erich Kasirye,” KCCA officials said in their account.
Rev. Kasirye is an ordinary reverend from Busoga but who was transferred to Namirembe Diocese. There is no evidence to indicate Rev. Kasirye is no longer considered by Namirembe Diocese as a priest of the Diocese, although it is the claim laid by Canon Ogeng now.
“We don’t have any dealing with that person. He is no longer a priest of Namirembe Diocese,” Namirembe’s Diocesan Secretary said. But Kasirye has been writing news articles referring to himself as a canon of the Anglican Church over the past years.
Troubles
The Church if Uganda is currently battling dissent in Luwero Diocese where the Bishop elect. Canon Godfrey Kasana was nullified but his supporters are continuing to create havoc. The Church has however apoibnted a Bishop Care taker- James Ssebaggala.
In February, the Church of Uganda denounced their head, Justin Welby, the Archbishop of Canterbury as the head of the global Anglican Church over a decision by the General Synod of the Church of England to permit the clergy to bless same-sex couples
