NAIROBI. Ssimuka Uganda CEO Frank Gashumba has praised the capture of elusive murder convict Mathew Kirabo saying now justice will be served.
In May this year, Kirabo was convicted in absentia of murdering his girlfriend, Desire Mirembe, in 2015 . Both Kirabo and Mirembe were medical students in Makerere University. Kirabo had fled in what relatives thought was an assisted escape by some elements in security agencies.
A red notice was issued against him and on Tuesday September 12, 2023 he was arrested in Kenya’s capital Nairobi.
Mr Gashumba said “the most wanted murderer has been arrested? And he will spend his entire life behind bars,” Gashumba told Newsday.
The warrant of was arrest was issued on November 16, 2022 by the high court registrar of Mukono. Kirabo had absconded from court appearances thrice prompting court to order his sureties to pay Shs.150 million which they wired through Standard Chartered Bank Kampala main branch by Kirabo’s father Geoffrey Wabulembo.
The father of the deceased girl, Mr Emmanuel Musoke has also staked a Shs.50m cash prize to whoever can arrest Kirabo.
