The police at Entebbe International Airport have intercepted suspected smuggled gold to a tune of 99kg.

Credible sources at the airport have revealed to this website that the incident happened last night and it is under investigation by Entebbe police criminal investigation Department.

The suspected smuggled gold biscuits were packed in a big box currently believed to be kept at Entebbe police station pending further investigations.

Sources at the airport believe the gold was to be shipped to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates and it was discovered before reaching the last stage of the checking point.

Earlier investigations indicate that this consignment was from Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and was owned by a certain company operating in many East African countries which our source has refused to disclose for fear of disrupting further investigations.

Investigators have also established that there are some other companies that operate in Uganda, which helped in smuggling the gold into the country.

According to sources within the police, this gold was bought by Ormes Trading company which operates in many European countries and the UAE.

Police says investigations into the matter is still ongoing.
