Four Charged For Extortion From SACCO Beneficiaries In Kabarol

THE State House Anti Corruption Unit working together with police and the office of the DPP have apprehended four people who were disturbing smooth SACCO operations in Kabarole district.
Those arrested and arraigned before court include Miss Kobusingye Esther-Town Agent Kibasi ward, Kibasi Town Council
as well as Mr Godfrey Busingye-Town Agent Kinyererezi ward, Kijura Town Council.
The other two who are
PDM SACCO leaders include Mr Amanyire Fred-Chairperson Kabedde Ward PDM SACCO and Mr Mugabe Robert-Vice Chairperson Kibedde ward PDM SACCO respectively.
They were charged before the Chief Magistrates Court in Fortportal on charges relating to extortion of money from several members of various SACCOs and enterprise groups.
Court heard that the accused, between the months of November 2023 and September 2024 fraudulently obtained money from several PDM beneficiaries from the villages of Harubaho and Kyamuhoro in Kibasi Town Council and Nyansozi village in Mugusu Town Council claiming it was a prerequisite for processing their funds where as not.
They have been remanded until 14/10/2024.
