KAMPALA-UGANDA/NEWSDAY: Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Kimera Mutebi II has told youth to sleep with one eye open as his Kingdom is under threat from “detractors and haters”.
He ordered his subjects to embrace unity and reflect on the future of their nation.
“The Kingdom was restored and we love it but there are those who hate it, therefore, we should not sleep with eyes open, the youth, we love you and you have exhibited the love, you are the hope of Buganda,” Kabaka Mutebi said speaking at his 30th anniversary of his enthronement as the 36th King of Buganda.
He said his Kingdom is now flourishing after the tireless and selfless service of the men and women who dedicated their finances without a salary to work for its restoration and operation for a good time.
During the years between 1993 and 2013, Buganda had three Katikkiros Joseph Mulwanyamuli, JB Walusimbi and Dan Muliika all of whom worked without a pay.
Kabaka Mutebi saluted them but did not give names but saluted their tirelessness to have the kingdom restored and operate afterwards.
“They dedicated their time to ensure the King was enthroned, 27 years after the abolition of the Kingdoms. We thank those servants. They worked for no pay and they financed our activities. It’s those who reassured the public that the Kingdom had been reborn,” the Kabaka said as men wearing black cloth hooted antelope horns.
The congregation among them top politicians and religious leaders, business executives clapped in agreement.
He said that despite the fact that the Kingdom was restored, it’s administrative powers are limited but regardless, he said his government would continue to support youth to develop.
“At 30 years, the Journey has just started,” Kabaka Mutebi said. Kabaka Mutebi is longest reigning monarch of Buganda Kingdom.
“Time immemorial, our forefathers exercised unity and it’s which is helping our survival in the socio-economic sectors,” Kabaka Mutebi said.
All through his speech voices were overheard saying “oyogedde Bbeene, kubawo nnyo awo” while others shouted “Ssababasajja wangaala”.
He warned people against selling off their land because it is a biggest asset in development.
On labour companies, he warned that owners are self-seekers who wish no positivity to the people they ferry out of the country.
“Desist from taking on unclear jobs simply due to unemployment. They don’t wish you well,” Kabaka Mutebi said adding that some people in the Diaspora are treated as slaves and some lose their lives.
He also said the fishing industry has been recently disorganized yet it employed many peoples especially youth.
