KAMPALA-UGANDA/NEWSDAY: Tens of thousands of people have participated in the tenth edition of Kabaka birthday run that was Sunday morning flagged off by Kabaka Ronald Mutebi.
Started in 2003, the annual Kabaka Birthday Run has over the last 10 years rallied Ugandans to celebrate the Kabaka’s life while participating in efforts to reduce the burden of disease. Previous editions have focused on ending sickle cell, fistula, as well as encouraging people to join efforts towards ending the spread of HIV/ AIDS. Just like the past 2 years, this year, the run was held under the theme Ending HIV/AIDS by 2030.
The Kabaka was flanked by Nnabagereka Sylvia Nagginda and other officials including Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga.
Mayiga saluted the runners for coming up in big numbers to celebrate the Kabaka’s 68th birthday revealing that, “I’m pleased to see Ugandans participate in this year’s run. Buganda can only prosper with a healthy population”.
