KAMPALA-UGANDA/NEWSDAY: Blogger Lumbuye’s father Davis Nsumba has said he has gone into hiding terrified,  claiming he could be the next government target.

“We are obviously under fear, but am optimist the government will free my child. We are terrified,” Nsumba said.

He added; “when your son is detained and the reasons are not clear, how do you know you are the next? That I don’t know the reasons for the arrest of my son, I have decided to stay away from my home despite the fact I have more than 30 people to take care of,”

A source seperately Nsumba was being threatened to be harmed for allegedly raising a chicky son. He didn’t say this in his video however and Newsday couldn’t readily verify the claim of threats.

Nsumba downplayed as trivial the accusations against Lumbuye although taking caution, deciding to excuse himself from his home.

“If he (Lumbuye) had been accused of murder that would be a different case. Criticism of others, just expression of opinion…many have spoken about the government. If he criticized the government, it should rehabilitate,”..

“No one starts a fight without a cause. He can change if rehabilitated,” Nsumba speaking to Bukedde online.

By Saturday, government’s frantic moves to extradite Fred Lumbuye had not yet yielded as it emerged that although the blogger had been booked on four flights, he never returned. Later on a Turkish publication claimed Turkey had proposed it’s rebellious dissidents in Uganda had to be exchanged with Lumbuye.

On July 12, the Police’s Criminal Investigations Department (CID) spokesperson Charles Twiine indicated in an interview that after a long time of Kajubi’s falsehoods, it had now dawned on him. President Museveni has earlier on July 8 directed security teams to locate and arrest bloggers who were allegedly misusing social media. It came after he had “proclaimed ill and later dead”.

Lumbuye has stayed in Turkey for nine years. He is a  consistent anti-government blogger, commanding a huge following and viewership, and has lately taken the cyber waves by storm. His characteristically acerbic live shows seem to whip up anti-government mood and sentiments across a section of the public who religiously listen to him. Mr Lumbuye regularly claims to be privy to sensational highly classified intelligence from within the Ugandan establishment via his “drones”, and on a few occasions, his information has happened with astonishing accuracy.
