KAMPALA-UGANDA/ NEWSDAY: I read with greatest concern an article full of blatant lies, by Masaka Deputy Resident City Commissioner (RCC) Ahmed Kateregga, under the headline; President Museveni the champion of human Rights and discipline in the armed forces, published by the Newsday online publication.

In his usual white washing and sugarcoating writing style, Kateregga guards his propagative opinion against critics, by asserting that; ‘whoever doubts president Museveni’s Saturday televised address to the nation is not a realist, but probably an anarchist or a foreign agent on pay’!

He then compares Museveni with Amin and Obote, before ‘declaring’ Museveni champion amongst them all. Kateregga and his fellow Museveni publicists need to always refresh themselves on some historical facts, before continuing to use Obote and Amin as litmus paper to justify Museveni’s poor human rights record.

Amin and Obote’s regimes put together, is 17years of rule, compared to Museveni’s now 35 years. This shouldn’t justify the poor record of the former leaders but it means, that unlike them, Museveni has had time even to learn from himself and do the right thing!

For though his 3.5 decades gone uninterrupted, Amin’s nine year rule was characterized by a war, that culminated into his eventual fall, as the likes of Museveni declared war against Amin the day he was sworn in(read the mustard seed by YK Museveni).

And for Obote, his eight years rule was not only interrupted, but the last four years was a civil war, as again Museveni declared war against Obote, well before he had been sworn in!. For a fact, during the ensuing war, many people were killed, but blaming the killings on only Obote, is over trusting the rebels that fought against him.

Ugandans sacrificed including their lives fighting against Amin and Obote because the two couldn’t guarantee their rights, therefore there cannot be any amount of justification for killings and torture between the government they helped to bring to power and the governments they fought!

Kateregga mentions how Amin’s agents kidnapped and later killed Byron Kawadwa, would he be suggesting Amin or Obote’s agents would have a hand in the following; in the killing of Dr Lutakome Andrew Kayiira, shot and killed at his home in Makindye in 1987, over 30years now, not even a preliminary report talking about this death has ever been released; the famous 2016 Kasese killings; the killing of Bobiwine’s driver Yasin Kawuma in Arua in 2019; the shooting and killing by a one Magara of innocent people at Bulange gate when Dr Besigye visited Mengo, in 2006; the killing of over sixty Buganda activists, when Kabaka was denied entry to His Bugerere county in 2009.

How about those killed in and around Kampala, Wakiso and Mukono when Bobiwine was arrested in 2020 in Luuka?Who now can stand up to explain the killing of one Mando Sennyange Zebra who Museveni confesses was killed by his agents(police), and no report to at least suggest he was killed as a mistaken identity?

I believe Museveni is a champion of a game, only known by Kateregga and his fellow Museveni publicists and they shouldn’t involve Obote and Amin who seem to have not played the same tournament with him!
