KAMPALA-UGANDA/NEWSDAY: President Museveni has reportedly ordered beefing up the security of Ssisimuka founder, also the Abavandimwe Chairperson Frank Gashumba.
Gashumba is an opposition sympathizer, owing to his fierce criticism to the National Resistance Movement (NRM) regime.
He recently spearheaded the campaign to change the name for the Banyarwanda born in Uganda to Abavandimwe and this is said to have caused a conflict between Gashumba and some powerful security officers.
In March this year, Gashumba sought to change the name of the Banyarwanda who were born in Uganda to Abavandimwe after complaints from from some of them that they were being denied certain services and acquiring documents such as passports and Identity cards.
Gashumba’s push for Abavandimwe’s equal opportunity has recently led to a court case against him after he was sued by the Principal Immigration officer in the ministry of Internal Affairs, Deborah Amanya who accuses him of slander during his talk shows pushing for the equal treatment of the Abavandimwe especially in getting Passports.
On many occasions Gashumba has been seen with heavily armed operatives who are mean looking. They donned in black anti-terrorism uniform each holding short machine guns, pistols and a bayonet. They are said to be thorough in checking all visitors before accessing Mr. Gashumba. Sources say that these are SFC commandos coumflaging as counter terrorism police officers. They are stationed at his home and office.
Word is that after Gashumba’s intervention on the issue of Abavandimwe, President Museveni was appeased and decided to offer security. According to the Council of Abavandimwe, they number to at least 6,000,000.
