KAMPALA-UGANDA/NEWSDAY: Bavandime community have called for a show of love and solidality from Ugandans during their upcoming carnival in Kampala.
The carnival date will be announced.
Bavandime are a grouping of Banyarwanda born and raised in Uganda but whose ancestors originated from Rwanda in the early 21st century.
Mr. Frank M.Gashumba, the coordinator of the Council for Abavandimwe announced Wednesday the carnival dubbed Igitaramo intends to bring together the Banyarwanda community and wellwishers aiming at celebrating our culture.
“Much as we are from different ethnic backgrounds, our unifying factor is that we are all Africans. Personally, I am a Ugandan whose grand parents migrated from Rwanda. There are over 11 million Banyarwanda known as Abavandimwe who are now Citizens of Uganda,”Gashumba told Newsday.
He said that Bavandimwe are scattered all over Uganda and are a friendly people.
“Wherever you are, we are there. We are neighbors and please let all of you join us during our carnival” Gashumba Said.
To further emphasise Bavandimwe presence in Uganda, Gashumba said that districts like Kisoro were curved out of Rwanda.
“When you meet the Banyarwanda born and raised in Bunyoro, they speak Runyoro, when you meet them in Tooro they speak Rutooro, when you find them in Busoga they are fluent in Lusoga just as they are in Bugishu, Ankole and all over places,” Gashumba said.
