The Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has been discharged from Lubaga hospital where he was rushed after collapsing from Lubaga cathedral in a requiem mass for the Late Archbishop of Kampala Cyprian Kizito Lwanga.

“He felt some discomfort and requested his aide to drive him to Rubaga Hospital for check up. Upon diagnosis, it was found that his sugar levels had gone down,” Doreen Nyanjura her deputy said Monday afternoon in a statement.

She said her boss was  given first aid to which he responded very well.

“Consequently he was discharged and advised to go home and rest. I have checked on him and he is doing quite well,” Nyanjura said in a statement sent to Newsday.

Lukwago was removed from Lubaga Cathedral after collapsing during the mass to commemorate the life of the former Archibishop of Kampala Archdiocese His Grace Dr. Cyprian Lwanga this afternoon.

Lukwago, who was seated in the area reserved for VIPs, was lifted by two men and evacuated through the door linking to the priest’s residence shortly after collapsing on Monday afternoon.

But his aides said “The Lord Mayor is still in shock after the loss of an astute cleric, amiable gentleman, a vanguard of justice and good governance, a fervent defender of human dignity, rights and freedoms.”

The mass was presided over by Bishop Paul Ssemwogerere of Luweero, who commended the works of the late when, he was part of Luweero diocese. The Bishop also decried the stinking levels of corruption in the Country.
