Kampala. National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Bobi Wine says to tomorrow’s swearing in of President Museveni is illegal yet government continues to abduct his supporters.

“He is preparing to illegally swear himself in tomorrow, the abductions of our people have intensifies,” Bobi Wine said on Tuesday evening.

He alleged that security operatives are continuing to violently and randomly pick up young people from their houses and from their work places.

Bobi Wine posted a video that appeared to show security officials taking away men. Bobi said they are being taken to unknown torture chambers.

“Tens of abduction cases are reported to us on a daily and it’s only a few that get filmed like this one. This is the situation in Uganda today,” Wine said.

He also decried the manner by UPDF armored vehicles to park just opposite the entrance of the NUP offices in Kamwokya while party officials held a press conference.

“Military ‘mambas’ came and parked at the gate, causing a disruption of an entirely peaceful event. Meanwhile, Magere, Kamwokya and Busabala are all full of military and police operatives, doing foot patrols while arresting many of our supporters for absolutely no reason,” Bobi said.

He added; “This all speaks to one thing: those we fear actually fear us the most. They are trying to intimidate us because they are intimidated.”

Uganda held its General elections on 14 January 2021 to elect the President and the Members of Parliament. The Electoral Commission announced Incumbent President Yoweri Museveni, who has ruled the country since 1986, as the winner with 6,042,898 votes (58.64%) and Bobi Wine 3,631,437 (35.08%) of the votes although the US State Department qualified the electoral process as “fundamentally flawed”.

The Africa Elections Watch coalition said they observed irregularities. The European Union disputed the process. The official voter turnout was 57%but is questioned since 409 polling stations have been announced to have 100% voter turnout.
