Nankabirwa pushes for disciplinary action against Kadaga

The outgoing government Chief Whip Ruth Nankabirwa has petitioned the National Resistance Movement (NRM) to discipline former Speaker Rebecca Kadaga for going against the party.

Kadaga and Nankabirwa were embroiled in a bitter conflict that climaxed with Nankabirwa openly campaigning against Kadaga in two elections including the recent one of the Speaker.

Kadaga who has been an outspoken Speaker when it comes to matters affecting the local population was seen to sometimes be critical towards Ministers and Government over their slow action towards some policies, and was recently defeated in the Speakership race by Omoro County MP Jacob Oulanyah.

Oulanyah got the backing of the NRM party and polled 310 votes while Kadaga who stood independently as an MP polled 197 votes.

Now Nankabirwa who was holding her last press conference with members of the Uganda Parliamentary Press Association (UPPA), says she is ready to reconcile with Kadaga, but she does not think everything can just be washed away without Kadaga apologizing.

Nankabirwa says that she has now petitioned the NRM Secretary-General Justine Kasule Lumumba demanding that before anything, Kadaga should apologize to President Museveni for openly speaking about him, the Central Executive Committee (CEC) for defying them, and the NRM party for going against the party’s code of conduct.

Nankabirwa says that she is ready to reconcile with Kadaga and if there is something she did that annoyed Kadaga, she equally will seek forgiveness.

Nankabirwa also claims that Kadaga victimized Parliament staff and members of Parliament with many of them being shut out of office, while others were denied opportunities like trips.

Asked about her performance and what she leaves behind as chief whip, she says she successfully whipped MPs and also stood in the gap where Ministers were not present.

According to Nankabirwa, the next chief whip should really work so hard to whip Ministers who have been difficult to manage, saying this makes work harder
