A Police raid in Kampala Metropolitan area conducted last night  has left 1,100 people found in bars detained and 50 vehicles impounded.

Police said Sunday the operation aimed at enforcing Covid-19 Standard Operating Procedures.

“The aim was to raid bars that have been working in total disregard of the Ministry of Health guidelines.  A total of 1,100 suspects have been arrested and over 50 motor vehicles have been impounded” Kampala metropolitan spokesperson Like Oweyesigire said in a statement.

He said that the suspects were arrested from different bars around Kampala Metropolitan Area.
“We reiterate that bars are not yet opened. Police will not hesitate to arrest any suspects found violating stipulated guidelines,” he said.

“We urge members of the public to observe standard operating procedures, like wearing masks in public places and sanitising, to avoid contract Coronavirus or spreading it to others,” Owoyesigyire said.
