Three nurses of Kawempe referral hospital detained for stealing drugs

KAMPALA-UGANDA/ NEWSDAY: Three medical staff at Kawempe referral hospital have been taken into custody after drug thefts from the facility.

The medics including Rita Nakiwal, Maria Nansasi and another one are alleged to have connived with hospital cleaners to steal the drugs valued in unspecified amounts of millions of shillings.

The hospital head, Grace Lubale said the thefts seem to have been ongoing for a long time.
“Our investigations will tell us when the thefts began” Lubale said. 

Police detectives from the State House  Anti Corruption Unit which is led by Col Nakalema were sent at Kawempe referral hospital on Wednesday night having been tipped off by a whistle blower.
