RUKUNGIRI-UGANDA/NEWSDAY: A 58-year-old man has been struck dead and two others injured by lightning in Rukungiri district. The deceased was identified as Patrick Gareeba, a resident of Nyakitabata village in Bugangari sub-county.

Emily Kyoheire, an area resident told our reporter that the tragedy occurred in Mukatooma trading centre during a drizzle on Thursday evening. At the time, the deceased had taken shelter together with Evas Korugyendo, 57, and Harriet Tugume, 58, both from the same residence who sustained injuries thereafter.

Elly Maate, the Police Spokesperson for the Kigezi region says that Tugume and Korugyendo were rushed to Nyakibare hospital in Rukungiri Municipality where they are currently admitted, while the deceased body was handed over to the family members for burial.
