KAMPALA-UGANDA/NEWSDAY: The State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SH-ACU) headed by Col Edith Nakalema has arrested one of Uganda’s most feared court bailiffs, Moses Kirunda over alleged murder.
Kirunda had been put under surveillance after the murder at Nateete of 43-year old, Magidu Mugwanya on July 14. Kirunda, and a yet to be identified police officer and a UPDF soldier at the rank of Major-Kyatuka attached to Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence-CMI are accused of participating in the murder of Mugwanya.
They all deny the charge. Kirunda was arrested from a hideout in Lungujja.
After the killing of Mugwanya, Detectives from Nateete police station who visited the scene recovered two bullet cartridges from a pistol and unspecified items from the deceased’s vehicle as part of the exhibits. It is alleged that Mugwanya was killed when trying to help a woman who was wailing and calling for help when three men were dragging her into a vehicle.
Kyatuuka has already been charged at Makindye barracks with one count of murder and failure to protect government stores.
The deceased’s brother, Alex Bugingo says that he is aware of joint investigations by police and the CMI. Kirunda’s weekend arrest by SH-ACU is the second by Col. Nakalema’s unit. He was arrested last year but released after the demolition of St. Peter’s church Ndeeba.
