MASAKA-UGANDA/Newsday: The puzzle to solve machete killings in Masaka became more complicated on Sunday, after the 23rd murder took place and the assailants took courage, calling the daughter of their victim “we have killed your dad, come for the body”.

Calling victims is a new tactic and it has complicated the puzzle to find the masterminds even after the President said on Friday “we now know who they are”.

During the August 28, 2021 night, machete wielders killed a one Kirembwe Henry, an 81 year old peasant, of Kyoko village, Kaganda parish, Kkingo subcounty in Lwengo district adding to the surging number of victims and terror in the area.

The killers after the murder of Kirembe, took off with the telephone handset of the deceased and later calling his daughter Birabwa Rosemary (+46766102959) who is currently staying in Sweden telling her “pick his body, we have killed him”.

This account has been confirmed by the greater Masaka regional spokesperson, Mohammad Nsubuga in a statement sent to Newsday.

“Kirembe was found hacked to death in his dwelling house by unknown assailants. The deceased’s phone 0783084919 was taken by the assilants and the same was used to call the his daughter informing her to come and pick her father’s body,’Nsubuga said in the statemtn.

“So she also called a neighbour who confirmed that Kirembwe was really dead. No suspect arrested yet but inquiries still at hand,” Nsubuga said.

The case has added to the escalating statistics of the victims of the machete wielders who in June President Museveni said he had broken their backs.

But in his statement on Friday Museveni said he had gotten new leads for on who the leaders of the leaders of the matchete wielders were.

The murder of Kirembe is being investigated under reference at Nkoni police station, NKN CRB 048/2021. This murder was reported one Andrew Matovu the Chairman LC 1, of Kkyoko village, Kaganda parish, Kkingo subcounty in Lwengo district.

Investigators have visited the scene by detective Otim Joyce Eunice and a team of detectives from police headquarters being led by D/SSP Taremwa Moses. A cannine dog has been introduced to the scene but it’s findings have not yet been made public.

Kirembe body has taken been taken to Masaka referral hospital for postmortem.

National Unity Platform President on Sunday asked the people of Masaka to protect themselves saying government had failed.
