KAMPALA: Kawempe North MP Muhammed Ssegirinya is still very weak and remains hospitalized, a National Unity Platform (NUP) boss, has revealed.

David Lewis Rubongoya, NUP’s Secretary General, said he had spoken with Ssegirinya who is currently hospitalized at UMC Hospital in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

“I spoke with our brother Hon. Ssegirinya Muhammad, who is undergoing medical treatment at UMC Hospital in Amsterdam. He spoke with difficulty and told me he is still feeling very weak,” Rubongoya wrote on his Twitter account on Monday.

Ssegirinya and his Makindye West colleague Allan Ssewanyana were granted bail in February this year after spending 15 months in prison over alleged murder.

Following their release, the two have been in and out of various hospitals.

Later, Ssegirinya’s health deteriorated further and he was flown to the Netherlands for treatment.

“Thankfully he is now in the hands of a very good medical team which we hope will ensure he gets better and back to his feet. Grateful to all comrades who have been checking on him and offering emotional and psychological support. Praying for a quick and full recovery,” Rubongoya added.
