KABAROLE. Tooro Kingdom 3rd Deputy Prime Minister who also doubled as Security Minister, Patrick Muganzi (centre in picture above) has resigned.

In his April 20 letter to King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, Muganzi attributed his resignation increased private responsibilities that are too demanding and cannot give him room to serve the kingdom at the same time.

“I thank King Oyo for offering me the opportunity to serve the kingdom for the last ten years in different ministerial positions,” Muganzi said in his resignation.

Muganzi also pledged to maintain his loyalty to the king and to protect the values of the kingdom while out of office. The kingdom is yet to make a statement on the resignation.

Muganzi was put on the spot in 2018 when he was accused of constructing a permanent house in Mugunu wetland in North Division, Fort Portal Tourism City. At that time, the king had just launched a number of campaigns to protect the environment against degradation.

Muganzi was condemned by the public but the kingdom officials led by Prime Minister; Bernard Tungwako called a press conference and asked the public to remain calm.

Tungakwo then assured the public that the allegations against Muganzi would be fully investigated.  However, to date, the results of the investigations have never been shared. On his part, Muganzi insisted that he had not constructed in the wetland because his construction plans had even been approved by all the responsible offices including the district physical planner. The structures have since remained in place.
