We won’t take Kabaka abroad for treatment, Mayiga tells clan heads

April 22, 2021

By Richard D. Mbogga

I have lately seen social media rebukes towards the Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga for various reasons but their intensity being based on the health of Kabaka Ronald Mutebi.

The irony is that the orchestrators, the so called Buganda diehards are excellently good at wedging their poisonous tongues criticizing and often character assassinating the leaders have never contributed anything to the development of Buganda.

To my dismay, they are so quick to judge those in positions of power yet most of them are failures who have changed nothing even within their families or the smallest unit of governance, the village where they live. The best they can do is pointing fingers at others!

Buganda is such a very difficult institution to head given its geographic location in Uganda and its fire power to influence politics in our country. It is therefore often used by detractors to weaken and bring down the kingdom leaders.
To me, Owek. Mayiga has stood out for the good of Buganda for most of his life. I bet, very few people remember the turbulence Owek Charles Peter Mayiga has gone through to defend and stand for Buganda even before he was appointed Katikkiro.

Those with a sober mind and marbles may recall how Owek. Mayiga, Hon. Betty Nambooze and Hon. Medard Ssegona were in July 2008 abducted for fighting for the good of Buganda Kingdom.
I do not want to label some people plebs, but if you fight your own without any justification but basing on false information, then what else can someone call you.

The fact that we currently have so many jobless individuals in the country, I am not surprised that criticizing the Katikkiro has become a full time job for many regardless of their grasp of events and understanding of matters later on the management of Buganda.

My advice to those pointing fingers to Kattikiro of Buganda is simple “nga tonnaba kuseera munno mutwe gwa nte, nyiga ku gugwo olabe oba kuliko ennyama ewera”.

We need to help build our Kingdom but not drill through it to enable the enemy easily penetrate us.
