Details on the killing of the former Uganda Journalists Association (UJA) President, Robert Kagolo on Thursday night have emerged with a Local Defense Unit personnel guarding the home of his late brother, now implicated in the murder.

“He was (Kagolo) was killed by an LDU guarding his late brother’s home at Kasengejje,” the deputy police spokesperson for Kampala metropolitan area, Luke Oweyesigyire told Newsday Thursday night.

The family of Kagolo’s brother Samuel Musiitwa who was kidnapped and killed this week had asked for LDU protection and they were given two men.

Mr. Kagolo had on Thursday gone to this home to hold a family discussion but a brawl is said to have ensued that forced a reckless action of an LDU, shooting the deceased.

“Two LDUs were given to them to guard their home since all families members had left for burial. Unfortunately today, a scuffle ensued between them and one shot at him. We don’t know whether it was intentional or not,” Oweyesigyire said.

The LDU who shot Mr. Kagolo has been identified as Mamuli Rashid and has been arrested.

“After the shooting, the deceased was being rushed to St Joseph hospital Wakiso but he died on the way. Two LDUs are already arrested and investigations are ongoing,” Oweyesigyire said.

About Robert Kagolo

“He was a committee member when I was UJA president”, Mr. Ahmed Kateregga, told Newsday.

“He was also a Treasurer under Joshua Kyalimpa while Herbert Lumansi was a Vice President. Kagolo then became a President for two terms,” Katerega said.

The late Kagolo was succeeded by Kazibwe Bashir ( now Kawempe South MP Elect).

Kagolo first worked with Super FM and was a close friend of the late Mulindwa Muwonge. And when Muwonge fell out with Ssematimba both were allocated to Star FM by President Museveni.

At Star FM, Sensuwa became the Station Manager, Mulindwa Muwonge the Programs Manager and Kagolo, who was a News Editor, became a Programs Manager when Muwonge demised.
