KAMPALA-UGANDA/NEWSDAY: The former director for the budget in the ministry of finance Kenneth Mugambe has been named in a huge wetland land grab in which five city tycoons are also named.

Mr. Mugambe, one of the wealthiest civil servants, has now been summoned to explain how he acquired freehold titles at plot 54 at Nakawa, Plot 94 at Lake Drive Nakawa and Plot 94 also at Lake Drive Nakawa.

He was asked to resign from his job as director of budget in January this year after a “ three month study leave” in South Africa. He owns several apartments.

A notice summoning him also contains companies and or pseudo names involving tycoon Basajjabalaba Hassan, Sudhir Ruperellia, Ephraim Ntaganda, Godfrey Kirumira among others.

The hearing will be held at the ministry of lands in Kampala on September 29, 2022.

“You should endavour to attend the public notic inperson without fail with all your documents supporting your claim,” a notice placed by the commissioner of land registration, Mr. Bigiira B Johnson reads.

Some of the names under which the tycoons hid their identity include Mukunda Aggrey, Kataali Rodgers, Joseph Erume, Nancy Kalungi, Moses MAyanja, Cissy Nanyanzi and others.

But there are also known companies that include Meera Investments owned by Sudhir. Seroma, Spidqa are also named as some of the beneficiaries of freehold 61 land titles that have been lined for cancellation.

President Museveni ordered cancellation of all land titles in wetlands.

Last week the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) launched an operation to clear Wetlands of encroachments and they started with Lubigi between Namungoona and Busega.

Hundreds of shelters and businesses were affected in this operation which is continuing.
